Irritating Ipods

I had a very irritating trip to the gym today.  I could not get the volume turned up on my husband's Ipod so I decided to reset the settings and accidently changed the language from English to Chinese. I am keen to find out if any Chinese people live in The Falklands.

Ladies that lunch in Stanley

Up early this morning to drive to Stanley to take part in a Save the Whale walk. I had a lovely morning sleeping until the last possible moment and then getting ready.  My husband pulled his hair out watching my son smear porridge all over himself and the table. Then he could not find a matching pair of socks. It was all very dramatic.

We arrived early for the walk and it took two hours of brisk marching. We got some good photos of white sandy beaches and saw some Dolphins. It has been a great week weatherwise.  Sunshine every day and hardly any wind. I have had a taste of what it is going to be like in the Spring and Summer and I am very optimistic about my life here.

In fact life has never been rosier.  The pace of life is very relaxed and I find myself trying to get wound up like I used to but the fresh air here means I am constantly tired and have no energy to get worked up about anything. I just sigh a lot with contentment.

After the walk I went with a group of friends to a upmarket hotel on the seafront. I had a lovely Caesar salad with lots of white wine and felt totally delighted with life. There is salad here after all, you just have to find where it hides.

My calm state of mind will only last until Thursday.  Then the school holidays begin for a month.

Darwin was a bit driech yesterday

We went to Darwin yesterday which is about an hour's drive away.  The road is much better than the Stanley road.  The ditch on either side is only about 2 ft instead of 10.  We saw about 5 other cars and thought that was a bit excessive.  We are getting used to having the roads to ourselves and that is why my husband and everyone else (apart from me because I am not driving much) drives in the middle of the road.

A nice misty, rainy day just like in Scotland.  In fact Darwin looks just like Scotland. We went for "smoko" which as you can probably guess originally involved smoking.  It was a smoking break for the peat cuttters and collectors in times gone by. As already mentioned my husband still likes smoko although it really is not the trend
now.  All the coughing and smelling and making ceilings go yellow etc.

Our "smoko" involved tea, coffee and as much cake that you could eat for £3.50.  I was controlled and had one piece of chocolate cake. My husband had 3 cakes, the children had 4 cakes each.  My daughter was not very hungry at teatime last night and  I have just spent the last two hours at the gym burning up 600 calories.  I have not lost any weight and I am seriously considering having a bar of Galaxy.

The sugar rush was quite unbearable afterwards. My son was yelling in a very annoying high pitched way. We went for a walk along by the water, avoiding sheep, chickens and ducks. They were also very hyperactive and kept quacking and cock a doodle doing. Our dog was going mad and she had not even had any cake.
